Lamb Kofta/Meatballs

A quick and simple dish.  The meatballs are a favourite with everyone especially the kids. A dish that can be eaten in a variety of ways if the sauce is left thick the koftas can be served in a wrap or by thinning it slightly by adding more water it can be eaten with rice or spaghetti.  Try this dish you will love it.

Prep and Cooking Time : 50 mins

Serves       : 4-6 people

Kofta Ingredients:

600g lamb mince
1 onion
3 garlic cloves
1 inch ginger
4 green chillies (Strength varies please be cautious)
1 to 1 ½ teaspoon salt or to taste
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon cumin powder
½ teaspoon turmeric
¼ teaspoon carom seeds
¼ teaspoon cumin seeds
½ beaten egg
Handful of coriander chopped

Method:

  1. Peel the onion and add to blender with chillies, ginger and garlic
  2. Add all the ingredients into a bowl and mix together
  3. Make into golf size balls ensuring they are smooth all over
  4. So that the mixture does not stick to hands keep a bowl of water close by so you can rub water on the palm of your hands

 

 

Curry Ingredients:

2 tablespoon oil
1 onion
2 garlic cloves
½ inch ginger
2 to 3 green chillies (Strength varies please be cautious)
400g chopped tomatoes (1 tomato tin)
1 teaspoon salt for taste
½ teaspoon coriander powder
½ teaspoon cumin powder
½ teaspoon turmeric
2 tablespoon natural yogurt (optional)
360ml water

Method:

  1. Heat oil in saucepan , add chopped onion and fry until light brown/golden, leave to cool
  2. Blend tomatoes, chillies, garlic, ginger and onions in food processor
  3. Transfer the mixture into the saucepan, add all the spices and stir on heat
  4. The curry sauce colour will darken and this is when you add water
  5. Increase the heat so that the sauce boils then reduce to simmer and add the meatballs to the sauce
  6. Cover the pan and leave to cook for 15-20 minutes
  7. Once cooked add the yogurt (optional)
  8. Serve with rice, naan bread or spaghett
